They call me "Plain Noodles."
Or "plain toast."
Or "Just the meat and the bun."
Or "No dressing, please."
You get the idea.
Can I get an "amen" from all those picky eaters out there in the world?!
I've always been a plain eater.
I will always remember when I was introducing my husband-to-be to my parents for the first time. My mom leaned over to Jordan and jokingly warned him of my unique sense of taste, "Just so you know, she's just plain noodles."
Spice? Can't handle it. Flavor? Nahhh, I'll take it flavorless. Cheese? Forget about it! Just pass me the salt and I'll be fine.
I guess I'm not the type of girl you would expect to be creating a food blog, but that's the point actually. That plain girl is who I used to be, until I got married and wanted to make more than just scrambled eggs and plain noodles for the hubby. It has only been two years, but in that short amount of time my palate has come leaps and bounds and I have a new passion for cooking that I never thought I had.
This is not to say that I will be the first to suggest, "let's get Mexican food tonight!" or power snarf tomatoes like my husband (he loves his tomatoes!), but I have come a long ways since "plain noodles" and now I want to share in this learning experience with you.
This is a blog about branching out and trying new recipes, no matter how simple, basic, or complicated they may be.
Here's a little bit about me:
I was born and raised a southern belle in North Carolina, or North Cackalacky as true North Carolinians know it. Fried chicken, biscuits, and grits are what I was raised on. I'm serious. How could I not be when I have the best southern cook in my very own family! My Grandma Jean is known for her pecan pie, fried chicken, and butter beans and I was lucky to get to eat food like that every Sunday dinner.
After high school, I attended Brigham Young University in Utah and graduated with my Bachelors in Family Studies, where I was given the opportunity to take several cooking classes. Those were by far my favorite classes at BYU! They taught me so much and really helped kick off my passion for cooking. Along with cooking, I love having dance parties in my kitchen with my husband, watching a good BBC movie while in my onesie, traveling, and practicing photography.
Well, that's a little about me, just so you can get a feel of who I am! I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I have enjoyed making it and all of the food! Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
